Keith explored how media portrayals from Steel Magnolias to Fire Country often reinforce outdated stereotypes that discourage home dialysis adoption. He contrasted these dramatizations with real-world advances and offered strategies to change the narrative.

From Compliance to Culture: Tightening the Safety Net Across Healthcare – Michael Morales, CHT, CHBT, CHWS

Michael explored the hidden power of organizational culture in preventing harm. He guided attendees through the four stages of safety culture, from blame-based systems to proactive, generative teams. He showed how leaders and frontline staff alike can move from simple rule-following to truly embedding safety into their daily practice. The discussion covered the real cost of communication breakdowns and missed handoffs, the behavioral and system-level shifts that support lasting change, and why the difference between compliance and culture matters for every healthcare setting.

Be Your Own Best Chance: How to Access All Your Resources – Richard Cabrera, LVN

Through the powerful story of his father’s dialysis journey, Richard illustrated the consequences of delayed referrals, healthcare inequities, and missed opportunities. His presentation served as a call to action for healthcare professionals to empower patients, advocate early, and never assume the system will do it for them. Attendees learned how to recognize red flags in patient care trajectories, guide patients through complex systems to access life-saving resources, and encourage open, proactive dialogue about treatment options and care planning.

Prolonging or Avoiding Health Issues Caused by Dietary Choices – Jonathan Diaz, RDN, LD

Jonathan highlighted how the food we eat has a direct and lasting impact on health and longevity. Drawing on his experience as a renal dietitian, he connected poor dietary habits to chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and obesity, and offered practical, evidence-based dietary patterns that can prevent or delay these conditions. This interactive session blended science, strategy, and cultural awareness to help healthcare professionals guide patients toward sustainable, healthy choices.

Interview with Danilo B. Concepcion, CBNT, CCHT-A, FNKF

Michael Morales interviewed Danilo Concepcion, a dialysis practitioner since 1975 who began his career as a Navy medic and went on to become a national leader in dialysis care. With five decades of experience spanning clinical practice, technology, research, and administration, Concepcion shared his contributions to dialysis manuals, publications, and his service on national boards and committees that have shaped the profession.
